Cees, Henriette, & Boudewijn

About Us

Cees & Henriette and their greatest hobby...sailing on their boat.

We met each other at an Art-Gallery eight years ago.  Cees is the brother of my friend Ricky which had her exposition at the Gallery at that moment. It was love straight away.  We married in 1999 and our son was born one year later in 2000.  Boudewijn was for both of us our first child.

During his study to become a medical doctor, Cees took a year off and went to America (California) to practice his hobby scuba-diving.  He got in contact with the movie industry and they asked him to assist as an underwater technician/help during the production of the film ‘’The Deep”. The set was outside the US near the Island of Bermuda. He also did some other work for them, until his Father suggested that he  come back home, to finish his study and become a doctor. This was in the mid 70’s. So Cees returned to Holland, got his doctors degree and worked as a forensic doctor for the Dutch government. After that he specialized and started his own business. (two private clinics)  After seven years he sold his company, because he wanted to do something else.

One sabbatical year later, he became medical director of an US –Multinational- Occupational Health department. He spent many years in the US (New Jersey) and got his MBA degree at one of the finest American Universities.  After seven years he decided to start a new consultancy business back in Holland. At this moment he works three days a week and spends quite some time with our son Boudewijn. He is a wonderful, caring father.

Henriette started her carrier at the Municipal Government of  Amsterdam. She worked as a secretary at the department of ethnic integration. After 5 years she started studying again at the University of Amsterdam and became a certified dental hygienist. She worked many years in her own practice, and slowly started to employ some colleagues.

Now she is managing her own clinic  three mornings a week allowing her business manager to run her clinic on a daily basis. She has plenty of time to practice her passion : making sculptures at home in  her own studio. Boudewijn gets to spend a lot of time with Henriette and she is always available to pick him up from school.

Every day she plays with him, making the house cozy looking. You will often find them in the nearby Zoo, which also has a big playground for children. She loves to organize his birthday parties for him and the kids from the neighborhood.  Swimming in the kids pool with Boudewijn every Wednesday afternoon is also on the calendar of fun weekly events.

She can’t wait become a mommy of two children and share her love with both and do nice things with them together, feeling like one big family, where our love definitely will be equal for both of  hem.

Bulgaria Orphanages

We both have had the luck to help and support three orphanages in Bulgaria. Last year we were down there bringing  toys and medicines. It was almost shocking to see those lonely little children in such poor and emotionally deprived situations, not having a loving family  taking care of them.. Unfortunately the law does not let us adopt from this country, which is extremely poor. We got in contact with these orphanages through the church, who asked us to help, so of course we did. We love and care so much for children and long to be able to adopt.

We have thought a great deal about the country from which we would adopt. It seems very important to us that we should be able to build a relationship with the child’s country of origin.  Because of our close relations with America and your society  we chose your country as the best country for adoption.  We speak English and always felt at home in the USA.  With this knowledge, and with our positive attitude towards the USA, we can build a “bridge” for our new child to it’s country of origin. As soon as they are old enough, we definitely will travel together to America.

About Boudewijn

Boudewijn is a very creative, sensitive and sweet boy. He laughs a lot and is very social. He is doing fine in school, although he is still very playful.  In our garden he has his own wooden shack on poles which he calls his “crow nest” . Next to it he has two swings, a hop and a sandbox. So, it is no surprise that a lot of the neighbor kids will play in his garden. The kids call him “Buffy”.  Boudewijn loves to draw, sing, but most of all climbing trees, like a monkey. He is what you call a “fun” kid.  As we live pretty close to the Zoo we have a family subscription so almost once a week we go and have a look at the baby tigers and how they grow up. We think he will be a wonderful big brother and share all his books  and toys eagerly. He can’t wait having a brother or sister, he would love it he’s telling us.
Before Boudewijn was born we traveled a lot through all continents and many countries all over the world.  We greatly enjoy traveling, and are interested in all the cultures we met. We travel on our own using a car, to get from place to place stopping wherever we want.  Since Boudewijn was born we usually take one special vacation with him during the holidays. Of course he loves swimming and playing at the sea side, so for this reason the Caribbean is a wonderful place.

But……his favorite place is still… Mac. Donald’s!!!
