About Our Home

Something about Holland

The Netherlands (Holland we say) is a small country with about 16 million inhabitants, and lies in the west of Europe at the seaside. The many lakes, meadows, woods and changing seasons makes this country beautiful and very good to live in. It is a prosperous, democratic multi cultural, multi ethnic country. Holland is totally flat so biking is what most people do.

Dutch people are friendly, open minded, helpful and honest and responsible. Our country has good education and training facilities, and a better social security system than many other countries have. It is a wonderful place to raise children and we look forward to being able to do that when we are lucky enough to adopt.

Our house and garden

Our home

We live in a residential area of a town. To Dutch  standards, we live in a quite comfortable home with a lush garden around it. Our town is one of the best places to live in Holland.

The inner center is from the 17th century. We gain the greatest pleasure from our house and garden. Our relationships with our neighbors are very good, and there are plenty of families with children in our neighborhood. The kindergarten and the school are also quite nearby. They have the best reputation in the province.

And ….our cat called “Gijs”

Seven years ago we rescued our Cat named Gijs from his death. We have also a house in the Caribbean, and this black poor cat was starving to death during an extreme dry summer. We gave him food, and some drinks, and formed a bond with him. After three months when we came back he was still there, so glad to see us, but also in a very bad shape. We took him with us to Holland. He is such a sweet cat, still happy we took him with us, he is lovely with children, he likes to play with them. This cat brings us great joy, and we are very fond of him indeed. In his entire 5 years old live Boudewijn never got one scratch from the cat !!!.  Boudewijn and Gijs are real buddies.

Our holiday home in the Caribbean

On the Dutch Antilles Island of St-Eustatius we have a nice house with a private beach. In our swimming pool Boudewijn plays all day with the visiting kids –local black & white kids-. He “lives” in that pool because the temperature over there is like Southern Florida.

St-Eustatius is about the only no-crime / no drugs island.  Of the 2800 inhabitants, 70% are local people and 18% is American and about 12% is Dutch. All ethnic backgrounds get along well and are relaxed with each other. As a matter of fact we all need each other on that small island.

We really love this island and we think that it is a beautiful and a safe place for children to be in the wintertime and go to the “Dutch” school where they teach in English.

A few times a year we fly to this island, spending our holidays. Hopefully we can also share the joy of being in our little paradise with your child.

We always celebrate Christmas on the Island in a lovely Catholic church called St-James chapel. Its always is emotional to be among a truly devoted and humble parish were once in a while a new born kid is baptized on Chrismas night symbolizing the birth of Christ. We have very good ties with the local community there. Boudewijn’s third Christian name is “Flavius” and named after the chief of the Spanner clan. Boudewijn is their little blond friend.
